Why are there drug monographs with different drug names and generic names? How are these monographs different?
Epocrates provides monographs based on product-specific information, such as available formulations, dosages, indications, manufacturers, and pricing. For example, epocrates include a unique monograph for each brand name salbutamol inhalation product (ie, ProAir HFA, ProAir RespiClick, Proventil HFA, Ventolin HFA), as well as a generic salbutamol inhalation monograph. The generic monograph only covers the advantages and forms as a generic product on the US market. Brand name monographs are specific to each branded product.
How is the Adverse Reactions section of the Epocrates drug monograph organized?
Epocrates included all adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and laboratory abnormalities reported in at least 2% of patients at any recommended dose for any indication and occurred more frequently in the treatment group than in the placebo group. This may vary for products where such information is not available, reported differently (for example, listed on the product label as >1% or >5%), or for which studies were conducted with an active control. Common reactions also include any ADRs described as "frequent," "common," or "most common" in the product label or in the primary literature.
What does the Contraindications/Precautions section of the drug monograph include?
The Contraindications/Precautions section includes diseases, conditions, and other conditions for which the drug should generally not be used or should be used with caution, regardless of the source or part of the prescribing information that may appear.
