Does Tumbleweed have commercial customers?
About 25% of their sales are for commercial purposes. Most of them are rented out as tiny houses, in addition to which they have built tiny houses to be used as travel offices, retail displays, mobile COVID testing units and travel kitchens.
Does Tumbleweed think tiny houses are a fad?
Tiny houses are here to stay, and their popularity will only continue to grow. There are 3 main types of micro homes; RVs built on wheels, HUD homes that are factory built and delivered, and traditional stick-built homes that may range from 400-1000 square feet. RVs and HUD homes can be built in factories and offer huge advantages. Factory-built homes can be produced quickly year-round, regardless of the weather, at a very predictable cost to the end buyer. As of 2021, they have built nearly 500.
What types of tiny houses did Tumbleweed build?
They build their Tiny House RV only on wheels. The RV code allows for the construction of a tiny home of 399 square feet. The largest they built was 260 square feet with a loft. Anything larger usually requires special permission to tow. Plus, the current setup of their factory doesn't allow them to make larger RV models.
How does financing work?
A few will pay cash for a tiny home, but most will finance the purchase. There are 3 types of Micro Home Loans; Micro Home RV Loans, Traditional RV Loans and Personal Loans. Tiny House RV loans, with interest rates ranging from 6.5% to 12% and terms of 15-25 years, are the easiest to qualify for. A traditional RV loan is the same as buying a Winnebago. Rates are high, but the term is usually 10 to 15 years, and it can be harder to qualify. Personal loans are typically used to buy uncertified tiny homes with interest rates of 10%-16% and terms of 5-10 years.At Tumbleweed, they work with multiple lenders and can set up first and second loans. In most states, their lenders will fund buyers with a score of 575 or higher.
